Powerful House panel to investigate Minnesota fraud: ‘Cannot be swept aside’

News RoomBy News RoomDecember 31, 20251 ViewsNo Comments

The powerful House Oversight Committee will hold a hearing next week to investigate the massive fraud scandal plaguing Minnesota, Chairman James Comer announced.

Comer (R-Ky.) has invited three Republican Minnesota state reps to testify on the growing scandal in which over $1 billion was allegedly swindled from taxpayers by various fraudsters targeting the state’s generous social safety net programs.

“Next week, we will hear from Minnesota state lawmakers who sounded the alarm on this fraud — and whose warnings were ignored by the Walz administration,” Comer said in a statement.

“This misconduct cannot be swept aside, and Congress will not stop until taxpayers get the answers and accountability they deserve.”

The three witnesses set to testify during the Jan. 7, 2026, hearing are state Reps. Kristin Robbins (R), Walter Hudson (R), and Marion Rarick (R).

In addition to January’s hearing, Comer is also planning a follow-up on Feb. 10, in which he has invited Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz (D) and Attorney General Keith Ellison (D) to testify.

“Minnesota Governor Tim Walz and Attorney General Keith Ellison have either been asleep at the wheel or complicit in a massive fraud involving taxpayer dollars in Minnesota’s social services programs,” Comer chided in a statement.

“American taxpayers demand and deserve accountability for the theft of their hard-earned money,” he added.

“Congress has a duty to conduct rigorous oversight of this heist and enact stronger safeguards to prevent fraud in taxpayer-funded programs.”

His influential investigative panel has been working on conducting transcribed interviews with key state officials in Minnesota and has worked to “expose failures, identify solutions, and deliver accountability.”

Comer formally launched a probe into the massive Minnesota fraud scandal earlier this month. The Oversight Committee chairman has demanded that Walz, Ellison, and others furnish key documents about the growing scandal.

He also asked the Treasury Department to fork over all relevant Suspicious Activity Reports for his team of investigators to review.

For the past five years, various fraudsters have targeted the North Star State in what has become known as the Feeding Our Future scandal. The since-defunct nonprofit had been established under the guise of providing food aid to the needy.

In reality, much of the money it received from taxpayers was squandered on foreign real estate projects, luxury cars, and other expenses.

The scandal is concentrated among Somali immigrants. Minnesota has the largest Somali-American population in the country.

Other groups had allegedly swindled cash from Minnesota’s various social safety net programs, such as its housing stabilization program, to the tune of over $104 million while claiming to help the homeless.

On Monday, the Justice Department revealed that it has charged 98 individuals for the massive Minnesota fraud scheme, with over 60 having been convicted or pleaded guilty — and more charges are on the way.
