The Cabinet Shop Advances Customer-Led Design Through New 3D Online Configurator

News RoomBy News RoomOctober 31, 202512 ViewsNo Comments

Digital Tails Group (DTG), a subsidiary of Bowmo, Inc., has released a new case study in partnership with The Cabinet Shop (https://thecabinetshop.co.uk) detailing the rollout of a digital 3D configurator that allows customers to design customised cabinetry directly online.

The system includes an integrated rules-based pricing engine and is connected seamlessly to The Cabinet Shop’s Shopify platform. Cupboards served as the starting point due to high customer demand, with the platform structured so the full product range can be added over time, alongside planned enhancements including AI-supported configuration tools.

The project set out to resolve key customer experience and operational challenges while ensuring the business had a scalable digital infrastructure for years ahead.

Previously, customers had to submit measurements and specifications manually, often over multiple email exchanges. Now, they can experiment with sizes, finishes and layout options on the website and see real-time visuals and cost updates instantly.

The design team formerly created one-off drawings for nearly every enquiry, which required a substantial time investment. The configurator streamlines this by automating standard designs, freeing designers to work on custom or unique commissions. This reduces turnaround time and helps accelerate order progression.

Every configuration also generates detailed manufacturing instructions, improving accuracy and reducing production errors. Built-in validation rules prevent incompatible design selections, ensuring that final orders are always buildable.

The Cabinet Shop plans to extend the configurator across new furniture categories such as media consoles, wardrobes and shelving systems. DTG’s modular development framework allows additions to be integrated efficiently without reworking the core system.

To support search-led customer journeys, the system automatically creates multiple product variations tailored to specific needs and keywords, helping the company reach a broader and more qualified audience.

“With the configurator, customers can design their own cabinets in real time. This takes pressure off our designers, reduces back-and-forth communication, and speeds up the process.”
— Lewis Nichols, Founder of The Cabinet Shop
