This Knicks roster might not be suited for Mike Brown’s vision.
There has been a lot of talk about Brown wanting the Knicks to play with more pace after they were one of the league’s most methodical teams under Tom Thibodeau. But does Brown have the personnel to accomplish such a dramatic transformation?
Brown wants the Knicks to play faster, but team president Leon Rose did not do much to bring in faster players. And the existing core is one of the slower, more unathletic groups in the NBA. It is an incredibly skilled core, but not one that is explosive.
Much of the coolness about Jalen Brunson’s rise is that he is particularly slow and unathletic compared to most superstars. What makes him unusual is that he overcomes it with his footwork, body control and smarts. But asking him to play faster exacerbates some of his worst qualities.
