The Saints have had enough of the Spencer Rattler experience.
The team informed Rattler they were making Tyler Shough the starter going forward after a 1-7 start to the season, according to multiple reports.
Shough, a 26-year-old rookie out of Louisville, saw his first significant playing time of the season when he replaced an ineffective Rattler during Sunday’s 23-3 loss to the Buccaneers.
Shough did not come in until late in the third quarter but still threw 30 passes, completing 17 of them, and was intercepted once while failing to lead New Orleans to any points.
“Tyler went in there and looked the part,” Saints coach Kellen Moore told reporters after the game on Sunday.
“He made some plays. The one interception was unfortunate. Gave us a chance to convert there, and so we’ll obviously make that evaluation here quickly and make some decisions moving forward. But this had more to do with the whole offense just not playing well enough and hopefully trying to generate some form of a spark there.”
It will be a challenging first assignment for Shough with the Saints traveling to Los Angeles to take on the 5-2 Rams.
The defeat included a Rattler pick-six early in the game after he had thrown three interceptions in the previous week’s loss to the Bears.
Shough shot up draft boards after leading Louisville to a 9-4 mark last season, throwing for 3,195 yards and 23 touchdowns before impressing at the Senior Bowl.
The Saints took him early in the second round with the 40th pick in the 2025 NFL Draft.
His meandering seven-year college career started at Oregon before transferring to Texas Tech and then finally Louisville. It was interrupted by a twice-broken collarbone and a broken fibula.
“He has all the traits you want in a quarterback,” one NFL scout said told The Post’s Ryan Dunleavy prior to the draft.
“Because he’s older, had three consecutive injuries and this was his first full season, he was under the radar. Otherwise, could we be having a very different [first-round] discussion?”
