Sophie Grégoire Trudeau shared a poignant message about love and moving forward as ex-husband Justin Trudeau’s relationship with Katy Perry heats up.
“Nothing we love is meant to be kept forever,” Grégoire Trudeau, 50, captioned an Instagram video on Monday, October 13. “People, places, moments — they’re all meant to be lived, not possessed.”
The retired Canadian TV host added: “The beauty is in the being there: in the shared laugh, the quiet glance, the heartbeat of a place before it changes. Connection isn’t something we hold — it’s something we feel while it’s here. That’s the real magic: presence.”
Grégoire Trudeau suggested to her followers, “Let yourself love what’s here, without trying to make it stay. #MindfulLiving #Presence #sophiegregoiretrudeau.”
In the clip, Grégoire Trudeau confessed, “To hold on feels safer than to let go. But love was never about possession. It was always about presence. The present moment. When we release what we cannot keep, we make space for the truth of connection, intimacy, the memory, for the lesson.”
She noted, “Grief also lives there. I’ve lost my father in the last year, I feel like with grief also comes grace.”
Grégoire Trudeau concluded by saying, “Maybe love’s deepest teaching is this: to stand open hearted in the face of impermanence. To honor what has been and to trust that letting go is also a form of keeping inside us where no loss can erase it in a way.”
Grégoire Trudeau’s remarks come after she and the former Canadian Prime Minister, 53, divorced in August 2023 following 18 years of marriage. The exes share three children: Xavier, 17, Ella-Grace, 16, and Hadrien, 11.
Since their split, Trudeau has been romantically linked to Perry, 40. The pair first sparked relationship speculation in July, after they were spotted on a dinner date in Montreal, Canada. Trudeau was seen days later attending Perry’s Lifetimes Tour in the same city.
Us Weekly later confirmed that the July outing was “definitely” a date, but it was “casual.” The insider told Us at the time, Perry and Trudeau “ had been in touch for the last month and have a few mutuals in the music industry.”
Last month a separate source told Us that the “Roar” singer was still quietly seeing Trudeau. “They’ve decided to be much more private about it,” the insider shared on September 15. “They are still speaking and are very interested in each other.”
Earlier this month, Perry and Trudeau confirmed their relationship is still going strong after they were spotted kissing and cuddling on a yacht in Santa Barbara, California.
Us Weekly previously reached out to Perry’s and Trudeau’s reps for comment.
Prior to her relationship with Trudeau, Perry was engaged to Orlando Bloom for six years. The pair, who share daughter Daisy, 5, called it quits in June.
Perry was previously married to Russell Brand for 14 months before they parted ways in late 2011. Bloom, meanwhile, shares son Flynn, 14, with ex-wife Miranda Kerr, whom he divorced in 2013.
