Carson Benge potentially will be on the radar for the Mets next season as a call-up, but for now can savor his breakout 2025.
The outfielder was named Monday as the organization’s “Player of the Year” after excelling at two levels.
Jonah Tong, who was promoted to the Mets in late August and has started three games for the club, was named the organization’s “Pitcher of the Year.”
Benge, 22, owns a .279/.380/.460 slash line with 13 homers, 68 RBIs and 21 stolen bases in 110 games for Single-A Brooklyn, Double-A Binghamton and Triple-A Syracuse.
He was the team’s first-round pick in the 2024 draft.
Benge, who represented the Mets at the All-Star Futures game in Atlanta, ranks as MLB’s No. 20 prospect, according to MLB Pipeline.
Tong, 22, pitched to a 1.43 ERA with 179 strikeouts in 113 ²/₃ innings over 22 starts for Binghamton and Syracuse. The right-hander was a seventh-round pick by the Mets in the 2022 draft.
Both will be honored during a pregame ceremony on Wednesday.
The Mets will also honor retiring amateur scout Marlin McPhail, who has spent 39 years with the organization.
For a third straight season Francisco Lindor is the Mets nominee for the Roberto Clemente Award, MLB’s top humanitarian prize.
Lindor awards scholarships through his foundation and has remained active in other endeavors.
Among them, Lindor lends his time to meet- and-greets for St. Jude’s Children hospital that have raised $44,000 over the past four years.
Sean Manaea is scheduled to pitch in a piggyback role, behind Clay Holmes, for Tuesday’s series opener against the Padres.
It will be Manaea’s second appearance this season from the bullpen.
He pitched in relief for his season debut on July 13 in Kansas City — also piggybacking Holmes — and allowed one earned run on five hits over 3 ¹/₃ innings.
