President Trump said Democrat Zohran Mamdani is likely to win the New York City mayoral election — after Trump’s allies unsuccessfully tried to consolidate anti-socialist voters around one candidate.
“I call him my little Communist. He’s my little Communist mayor,” Trump said. “But, you know, he has to come to Washington for money, a lot of money.”
Trump said former Gov. Andrew Cuomo, a Democrat running as an independent, was strongest against Mamdani in the four-way race also featuring incumbent Mayor Eric Adams and Republican Curtis Sliwa.
But the president said “it almost looks like even one candidate wouldn’t work at this point.”
