Sirens lock up top PWHL draft pick Kristýna Kaltounkova with three-year deal

The youth movement for the Sirens continued as the PWHL team locked up first overall pick Kristýna Kaltounková to a three-year deal on Monday after taking the talented Colgate forward in the draft in June.

Kaltounková was one of two players selected in the first round by the Sirens as they look to build around young star Sarah Fillier, coming off a rookie season in which she had the second-most points in the PHWL and was fourth in the league in goals. 

Kaltounková is expected to bolster the Sirens’ offense after spending five years with Colgate’s women’s hockey program, where she set the record for most goals with 111 and was second assists (122) and points (233) in program history. 

“Speed, physicality, compete, passion — Kalty brings it all. Fearless enough to block any shot on the ice, but it takes real courage to try and block hers — it’s a true weapon,” Sirens General Manager Pascal Daoust said in a statement on Monday. “We’re proud to welcome our 2025 first overall pick to the Sirens family on a three-year commitment. An elite player and outstanding teammate whose talent and drive will lift our standard of excellence and excite our fans.”

The three-year deal keeps Kaltounková in the Tri-State area through the 2027-28 PWHL season.

The Czech player said in a statement that she was “incredibly proud” to sign the deal and was looking forward to getting to know her teammates and fans. 

“Alicia Keys said it best, New York is where dreams are made of — I can’t wait to live mine out as a member of the Sirens,” she said in part of her statement. 

The Sirens are coming off a 2024-25 campaign in which the club won 12 games and missed the playoffs for the second consecutive season. 

The Sirens left star forward Alex Carpenter and Jessie Eldridge unprotected earlier this year during the exclusive signing window and the expansion draft, which led to both players landing with the new Seattle franchise.
