Taylor Swift was not on hand to support Travis Kelce at his Kansas City Chiefs 2025-2026 season opener.
The Chiefs played against the Los Angeles Chargers in the Friday, September 5, game, held at Arena Corinthians in São Paulo, Brazil.
While fans were eager to see the newly engaged pop star step out to cheer on her fiancé in the South American country, Swift was notably absent from the game.
Swift, 35, has become a regular attendee of Kelce’s games since the couple went public with their relationship in September 2023. She was by his side throughout last season, including when the Chiefs lost the 2025 Super Bowl to the Philadelphia Eagles in February.
Kelce, 35, returned to the field in Brazil one week after he and Swift announced their engagement.
“Your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married 🧨,” the pair captioned a joint Instagram post on August 26.
The accompanying photos showed Kelce getting down on one knee in a flower-filled garden and Swift debuting her old mine brilliant cut diamond ring designed by Kindred Lubbock at Artifex Fine Jewelry.
“Travis is incredibly thoughtful. He had a clear vision of what he wanted,” a source exclusively told Us Weekly of the bauble. “He chose it almost entirely on his own. He knows her so well and what she likes — a timeless, classic, vintage touch.”
Two weeks prior to the engagement news, Swift made her debut on Travis and his brother Jason Kelce’s “New Heights” podcast, where she spoke about how she “fell in love” with football while dating Travis.
“I became a person who was running through the halls of my house screaming, ‘We drafted Xavier Worthy!’” she recalled. “My friends are like, ‘Who bodysnatched you? What do you mean?’”
Travis gushed, “I am forever thankful for you diving into the football world wholeheartedly.”
Despite now being “obsessed” with the sport, Swift confessed she knew very little about it going into her relationship with Travis.
“On our first date, I legitimately asked him what it was like when the Chiefs played the Eagles in the Super Bowl and he looked across the field across the line of scrimmage and saw his brother standing on the other … five feet in front of him on the field,” she recounted.
Swift praised Travis for being “so non-judgmental” about her lack of expertise on the subject.
“[Travis] didn’t even look at me. Like, I now know what an insane question that was,” she acknowledged. “He was like, ‘Actually, I’m on the offense and my brother’s on the offense, and I’m only on the field at the same time as the defense.’ I thought everyone was on the field at the same time.”
