John Cena’s epic WWE SummerSlam performance washed out by Brock Lesnar’s shock return

John Cena’s time in WWE is soon coming to a close, and he spectacularly passed the torch to Cody Rhodes at SummerSlam — no heel turn needed. 

But that’s not what the night will be remembered for. 

Brock Lesnar made a shocking return to the company. It’s his first appearance since he wrestled at SummerSlam 2023 and since being named in the bombshell sexual assault and sex trafficking lawsuit against former WWE boss Vince McMahon in January 2024. 

There will be plenty to say about the merits of bringing Lesnar back, but it was quite the way to blow the proverbial roof off MetLife Stadium and an announced crowd of 60,561 to end Night 2 on Sunday.
