The Mets faced another lefty starter Sunday and came up short.
A team that feasted on lefties a year ago hasn’t been able to figure them out so far this year, as Carlos Mendoza looks to find the best lineup to face them.
In Sunday’s 12-4 loss to the Giants, most of the offense came up empty against rookie Carson Whisenhunt, who allowed just one earned run in 5 ¹/₃ innings in just his second major league start.
But the issue runs deeper than that, with the Mets ranked 22nd in OPS against lefties this season (.660) after putting up the fifth-best mark last season (.769).
