Drake lost a $1 million bet and appeared to blame Justin Bieber after the Maple Leafs’ blowout loss to the Panthers in Game 7 of the Eastern Conference semifinals of the Stanley Cup Playoffs on Sunday.
The Canadian singer, who’s a diehard Maple Leafs fan, and his wife, Hailey Bieber, sat in the front row behind the players’ bench at Scotiabank Arena in Toronto, where the home team was demolished 6-1 by the defending champion Panthers.
“Bieber Curse…” Drake, who bet $1 million on the Maple Leafs to win Game 7, wrote on his Instagram Story.
Drake, a Toronto native, is usually the one getting trolled for bringing bad juju to sports franchises after placing big bets.
The rapper and Bieber are longtime friends.
Bieber was sporting a fur hat and sunglasses while Hailey rocked a vintage Toronto windbreaker.
Kenny Albert shouted out the couple on the TNT broadcast and referred to Bieber as “one of the biggest Maple Leafs fans.”
Fans have expressed concern recently after he was seen puffing on what appeared to be a joint and partying at Coachella, followed by a string of cryptic social media posts.
The “Stay” singer posted a series of photos and videos on his Instagram from Game 7.
“I’m a slut for these boys,” he wrote, including a bunch of selfies that showed him and the Maples Leafs’ bench.
In a tribute to the team, Bieber explained that he’s willing to be patient because he believes they will bring the Stanley Cup trophy back to Toronto.
Florida will play the Carolina Hurricanes in the Eastern Conference Final, with Game 1 of that best-of-7 series set to be held at Lenovo Center on Tuesday.
