His fashion statement struck out — again!
Mayor Eric Adams swung and missed Thursday when he celebrated the first day of Major League Baseball by flaunting a much-loathed hat that features both Mets and Yankee logos.
Hizzoner — who last year irked fans of both teams with his sartorial fence-sitting — posted a photo of himself wearing the combo cap to kickoff the big day.
“There’s nothing like the excitement of opening day, especially in New York City!” Adams wrote on X Thursday.
“Wishing the @Yankees and @Mets a GREAT season. Can’t wait to break out one of my favorite hats, too!”
“Now, let’s bring home a championship!” he added — without apparently realizing only one team can be champions.
Adams sparked a firestorm of hardball from critics in October by wearing the Yankees-Mets hat in anticipation of a potential subway series between the teams.
Die-hard baseball buffs called it a spineless case of bothsidesing that failed to address the teams’ long-simmering duel — with one Yankees fan proclaiming the cap should be “made illegal.”
On Thursday, baseball fans took a swing at the mayor again, calling the cap a fashion statement that pleases no one.
“You should get locked up just for this,” one fan wrote, in an apparent reference to the corruptions charges filed against the Mayor, which may soon be dropped.
