Oddsmakers aren’t expecting things to get much better for the White Sox in 2025.
One year after breaking the all-time single-season loss record, the White Sox have a history-making over/under of just 53.5 wins (DraftKings Sportsbook) heading into this season.
That number is the lowest preseason win total for any team since at least 1990, according to Sports Odds History.
Chicago’s over/under is a full five wins fewer than the Rockies, who have the second-lowest preseason total at 58.5 wins.
The pair are just the eighth and ninth teams over the last 35 years to have a preseason over/under below 60, joining the 2024 A’s, 2023 A’s and Nationals, the 2021 Pirates, 2019 Orioles, 2013 Astros and 1993 Marlins.
Still, hitting the over on 53.5 would be a massive improvement from the South Siders.
The White Sox went 41-121 in 2024, breaking the Modern Era loss record of 120 set by the Mets in 1962, their inaugural season in Major League Baseball.
And the White Sox roster didn’t get much better this offseason.
They added veterans Martin Perez, Josh Rojas, Mike Tauchman and Austin Slater on one-year deals, among others, but their additions are outweighed by their subtractions.

It is possible that the White Sox will continue to disband some of their roster as star outfielder Luis Robert should be available in a deal this summer.
The White Sox’s biggest upgrade may be in the dugout.
The franchise hired ex-big leaguer Will Venable as their manager, replacing Grady Sizemore, who served as the interim manager since the team fired Pedro Grifol last August.
