The NFL has suspended and fined San Francisco 49ers owner Jed York following his embarrassing arrest in Ohio earlier this summer.
The league announced on Friday that York will be barred for six games and will be docked $500,000 for violating its personal conduct policy.
York’s absence from the Niners’ first three games of the season will count toward his suspension, making him eligible to return to his franchise on Oct. 20, the NFL stated.
“Today, the NFL concluded its review, and I accept its decision in full,” York said in a statement on Friday morning. “To my family, to the players, coaches, and employees of the San Francisco 49ers, to our fans and partners, I am deeply sorry. This was an inexcusable mistake and I take full responsibility.
“What I did does not reflect my values or the man I strive to be for my family. While I fell short of the model I want to set for my sons, I now hope to show them the importance of owning up to one’s failures, and that even our worst moments teach us to be better. Leading the 49ers is a privilege, and one I don’t take lightly. Your trust will have to be earned back over time, and I look forward to that work ahead.”
The NFL began its investigation into York just after he was taken into custody on Aug. 23 in East Palestine, Ohio over accusations he tried to pay $160 for sex.
Authorities alleged York reached out to an undercover prostitution ad and after agreeing to the fee, he went to meet up with the woman at a trailer park.
However, when he arrived, cops pulled him over in his rental car and arrested him.
York, wearing a Yankees T-shirt, appeared surprised to be stopped by cops at the scene, bodycam video showed.
York was initially charged with one count of engaging in prostitution and one count of possessing criminal tools, but on Aug. 24, he pleaded no contest to a lesser charge of disorderly conduct as well as no contest to the count of possessing criminal tools after reaching a deal with prosecutors.
He was sentenced to one day in jail, but was given credit for time served. He was also ordered to pay over $1,000 in fines.
