The right-handed hitting depth that the Yankees acquired ahead of the trade deadline has been all but depleted.
Less than a week after Austin Slater hit the injured list with a hamstring injury, Amed Rosario was placed on the 10-day IL with a left SC joint sprain, the team announced before completing a series against the Astros in The Bronx on Sunday.
The move was retroactive to Saturday, and catcher J.C. Escarra was recalled from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre in a corresponding move.
Rosario, a utilityman acquired from the Nationals late last month, was injured while attempting to make a catch and running into the right-field wall Friday, and he didn’t play Saturday.
In four games with the Yankees, Rosario has gone 3-for-7 at the plate.
But now, for at least the immediate future, the Yankees will need to operate without the pieces they hoped could help fix some of their offensive woes.
