The Yankees camp that opens Tuesday, when pitchers and catchers report, has grown a bit larger.
The Yankees announced Sunday that they invited catcher Ronaldo Hernández and lefty Jayvien Sandridge to major league spring training, bringing the attendance to 69.
Hernández is a 27-year-old who has spent nine seasons in the minors and still is looking for his MLB debut.
Last year, he played 63 games with the Diamondbacks’ Triple-A affiliate and hit well, posting a .864 OPS with 11 home runs.
Sandridge, 25, owns a career 3.87 ERA in six minor league seasons with Baltimore, Cincinnati and San Diego.
Sandridge walks a lot of batters and strikes out even more.
Last season, with the Padres’ Double-A and Triple-A teams, he walked 49 and struck out 95 in 61 innings, in which he finished with a 4.28 ERA.
