Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders wasn’t interested in talking to former NFL signal-caller Cam Newton ahead of the Buffaloes’ 48-21 win over Central Florida on Saturday.

Things appeared cordial between the pair when they met on the field at FBC Mortgage Stadium and shared a handshake — but then Sanders walked away and Newton looked confused.

“He said I’m on some weird s–t,” Newton told people on the field after their brief exchange, as seen in a video on X, which captured the tense moment.

Newton appeared to hold onto Sanders’ hand as the Heisman candidate walked off and resumed warming up.

The 11-year NFL veteran, who last played with the Carolina Panthers in 2021, did not explain the exchange further.

It’s unclear what exactly Sanders meant by his apparent remark.

Newton discussed Sanders and his outspoken demeanor on his “4th & 1” podcast on Sept. 24.

He explored how trash talking could impact Sanders’ future NFL career — and the potential benefits of being outspoken, against the risks of drawing negative attention.

He also explained there is a “fine line between confidence and controversy,” and he analyzed how a player’s personality can influence perceptions among coaches, teammates and fans.

In another recent installment of his “4th & 1” podcast, Newton’s cohost, Omari “Penny” Collins, brought up Sanders’ dating history.

Collins said Sanders dated Bryce Young’s ex-girlfriend, Myra Gordon — who’s currently dating Sixers star Tyrese Maxey.

Sanders had a productive day, completing 28 of 35 passes against UCF.

The Buffaloes next face the Kansas State Wildcats on Oct. 12.
