Sarah Shahi has offered rare details on her shocking split from Sex/Life costar Adam Demos — including what led to their breakup.
The former couple originally met on the set of Sex/Life in August 2020. At the time, Shahi was separated from then-husband Steve Howey, whom she was married to for 11 years. Shahi and Howey, who share three kids, ultimately finalized their divorce in 2021.
Shahi subsequently formed a connection with Demos, and they stayed together after Sex/Life‘s abrupt conclusion on Netflix in 2023.
While reflecting on their romance, Shahi expressed interest in sharing the screen with Demos again. “Nothing has felt right so far, but what’s great about that is that we met as actors. So we have a really great working relationship with each other,” she told The Hollywood Reporter in February 2025, emphasizing that she and Demos have “great chemistry.”
Shahi added that it was “impossible” for them “to lie” to each other while filming scenes, explaining, “There’s no tolerance for any sort of bulls***. So I think we do work well with each other, and I would love to find something that he and I could do together.”
Two months later, however, news broke that Shahi and Demos called it quits. Keep scrolling for Shahi’s biggest revelations about why their relationship ended:
How Sarah Shahi Broke Her Silence on Adam Demos Split
In her Us Weekly cover story, Sarah Shahi addressed her split from Adam Demos for the first time. “There was an element of the relationship that people really felt belonged to them, which was very sweet and heart- warming,” she shared in January 2026.
Shahi noted at the time that there were challenges to dating in the public eye.
“The flip to that is when things end, you feel like you’re going through it twice,” she told Us. “You’re going through it emotionally on a personal level, and then you’re going through it again on a much bigger level.”
Sarah Shahi Learned Important Lessons After Adam Demos Split
“Without airing any kind of laundry, I do think … it’s hard to build a life when you have children unless the person truly, truly, truly wants that as well,” Sarah Shahi said on Kristin Cavallari‘s “Let’s Be Honest” podcast in February 2026. “This is not a comment on him but more about the ways that I show up as a parent. I show up as a parent in a very specific way. [As a child], we could walk into our mom’s bedroom at any time and we walked into the bathroom at any time. I think that can be a little challenging for somebody who may not be used to having kids.”
She added: “It’s great for love to be easy, but then the life stuff should also not be so difficult.”
Sarah Shahi’s Hopes for Her Next Relationship After Adam Demos
In the same podcast episode, Sarah Shahi looked forward to the future. “I want my next relationship to be about me. I’m not looking for a stepparent. I just want a boyfriend,” she said. “Someone that can just take me out and I can be on the beach and just be all sweaty and have sex all the time. I just want someone to purely service me, and if that grows into something else then great.”
