Where Aaron Glenn stands on questions over Steve Wilks’ Jets job security

News RoomBy News RoomDecember 9, 20250 ViewsNo Comments

The Jets defense had a dismal day on Sunday.

The unit allowed 239 rushing yards in the 34-10 loss to the Dolphins.

The Jets had 10 missed tackles, failed to record a takeaway for the 12th time this season and looked baffled by the Dolphins offense early in the game when Miami jumped out to a 21-0 lead.

None of this is good for defensive coordinator Steve Wilks.

The questions about Wilks’ job security are going to grow when the season ends unless the Jets defense shows major improvement in the last four games.

Head coach Aaron Glenn was asked about Wilks’ job performance on Monday.

“You know what? I’ve been in that position before and to me, I was fortunate enough to have a coach [Dan Campbell] that believed in me the same way I believe in Wilks,” Glenn said. “And the thing is, I evaluate coaches at the end of the season as we continue to talk and see how we’re going to improve.”

All of the blame does not land on Wilks, of course, but someone is going to have to answer for a defense that does not affect games enough.

The Jets have zero interceptions, something no other team has done through its first 13 games in NFL history.

They have just one takeaway on defense all season.

The issues from the beginning of the season were evident again on Sunday.

“It is a team effort between coach and player,” Glenn said. “So, I just don’t look at one person and say this is all on him, no, this is a collective unit, even with myself making sure that how I communicate the way I want things to look on offense, defense, and special teams.”

Many comparisons have been drawn between the Jets under Glenn and what the Lions did under Campbell to turn things around.

Campbell fired offensive coordinator Anthony Lynn after his first year in Detroit and promoted Ben Johnson.

Could Glenn make a similar change after his first year?

WR Garrett Wilson is eligible to return from injured reserve this week, but Glenn would not say what the plan is.

“Those conversations are going to be with the doc and they’re going to be with Garrett,” Glenn said. “Once we nail down those conversations a decision will be made after that.”

Wilson has missed four consecutive games with a knee injury.

He reinjured the knee last month against the Browns after missing the Bengals game with the same injury.
