The playoff grind doesn’t stop for the Oklahoma City Thunder.

Just two days after winning a grueling seven-game slugfest of a series against the Denver Nuggets, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and co. will kick off the Western Conference Finals with Anthony Edwards’ Minnesota Timberwolves on Tuesday, May 20 at Oklahoma City’s Paycom Center.

This is a big matchup for both squads — the last time OKC got this far in the postseason was in 2016 when they lost a heartbreaking seven-game series against Steph Curry’s Warriors while the Mavericks quickly disposed of the T-Wolves in five games in last year’s WCF — and would serve as a statement win proving their worth on the national stage.

Add in the fact that prime MVP candidate Gilgeous-Alexander is going against his cousin Nickeil Alexander-Walker, a Timberwolves guard, and we’ve got ourselves a can’t-miss matchup here.

“It’ll be very fun,” Gilgeous-Alexander said during his postgame press conference. “It’s hard to even explain. If you know how close we are, he’s like my second brother. We’ve been through every stage of life together… It’s very special…but I’m gonna try to take his head off for sure.”

If you want need to be there to witness the high-stakes hoops showdown live, last-minute Western Conference Finals tickets are still available.

About Thunder-Timberwolves series

Over the course of the regular season, the Western Conference powerhouses met four times and split the season series.

On New Year’s Eve, OKC came out on top over Minny 113-105, thanks to a dominant showing from SGA who dropped 40 on his home court. Really though, the Thunder’s success can be attributed to an explosive third quarter where they outscored the Timberwolves 43-23.

In their second matchup on Feb. 13, Minnesota roared back with a 116-101 win led by backup power forward/center Naz Reid who unloaded for 27 points and 14 boards.

The teams continued ping-ponging back and forth in game number three ten days later on Feb. 23. OKC took home a 130-123 victory. Once again, SGA went off, this time for 37. Elsewhere on the floor, Jalen Williams dished nine assists.

Finally, the Timberwolves wrapped the season series with a 131-128 overtime thriller. Of course, SGA led both clubs in scoring (with 39 this time) but Edwards topped the box score with 13 boards and eight dimes.
