Ethan Plath didn’t mince words on the latest episode of Welcome to Plathville, asking his future brother-in-law Zac Wyse all the hard questions.
During the Tuesday, August 12, episode of the TLC series, Ethan, 27, and Micah Plath poked fun at Zac’s proposal plan as he prepared to ask their sister Lydia Plath to be his wife after four months of dating.
Ethan and Micah, 24, started a small fire in the woods and threw a chair into the lake as Zac tried to get their help for the engagement that afternoon. Though they attempted to derail his plan, Lydia, 21, was over the moon at the proposal and accepted.
Two hours later, the Plath brothers sat down with Zac and decided to grill him on his intentions and life plans, hoping to get to the bottom of his choice not to kiss Lydia until their wedding day.
“I don’t think that Zac and Lydia were divinely put together by God and there’s no one else. And it was just destined and intended to be,” Ethan told the cameras while Micah sat beside him.
Micah, who met Zac the day he proposed, wondered whether the couple’s relationship was “just a crush” that was becoming “bigger by not kissing or doing anything [sexual].”
When Zac took a seat, Micah tried to scare him a little bit, saying, “I just wanted to let you know that as Lydia’s bigger brother, I know you make Lydia happy, and that’s what matters to me. But if I ever find out that, you know, [you] did anything to hurt her or anything like that — you ever let her down or anything — there will be consequences.”
Ethan, meanwhile, took issue with the fact that Zac agreed not to kiss his sister or have any real intimacy prior to saying “I do.”
“It’s not anything that I expected to make a commitment to, but because of who Lydia is, it changed my heart and was like, ‘Yeah, no, that’s something I really do want to commit to, to honor her,’” Zac explained, noting that saving themselves in every way was “tied to the core belief that we do have in Jesus Christ.”
Ethan confessed to Micah, “I don’t think it’s honest to say, ‘I’m not kissing her because, you know, of the fruit of the loom. The seven fruits of whatever.’ F*** off, you big holy bastard. I think that’s a bulls*** answer.”
Zac insisted he wanted to kiss Lydia and was physically attracted to her, but Ethan wasn’t convinced.
“I’ve never in my life met a straight man who voluntarily gives up the opportunity to be intimate with a woman,” Ethan said in his confessional. “Kissing, making out, just, you know, everything. It just doesn’t compute in my own mind, especially as a young man.”
When Ethan couldn’t contain his frustration anymore, he turned to Zac and asked him point blank about his sexuality.
“I mean, everything that you and Lydia have said is great and sounds amazing, but I got to ask you … are you gay?” Ethan said while looking Zac in the eyes. Micah grinned as he looked back and forth between the men before the episode came to a close.
Despite Ethan’s negative feelings toward Zac all season — he told Lydia about his concerns in a previous episode — Lydia and Zac got married in February.
Welcome to Plathville airs on TLC Tuesdays at 10 p.m. ET.
