Vanessa Marcil says that she’s “forever grateful” to have her son, Kassius, in her corner.
“Going through a tough time. I haven’t shared any of it, but I realized tonight for the first time that my best friend @suzannewhang, my son’s godmother, is really gone,” Marcil, 56, wrote via Instagram on Saturday, August 30. “I feel completely alone. I’m stepping out of things for a while to grieve.”
Former House Hunters host Suzanne Whang died in September 2019 at the age of 56 following a lengthy battle with breast cancer. She met Marcil in 1993 on the set of Las Vegas, and they quickly became close friends and ultimately cohosted the “LoveStop” podcast together.
While navigating her grief in the years since Whang’s passing, Marcil has leaned on Kassius, 23, for support.
“I’m forever grateful for my son and the incredible acceptance, laughter, celebration and ferocious loyalty we received from my bunny,” Marcil wrote on Saturday. “It’s a once-in-a-lifetime experience to be fully wrapped in such a love completely devoid of judgment. I miss you, bunny. Please send me a sign.”
Marcil has previously shared multiple tributes to Whang via social media.
“On this anniversary of my son’s godmother #SuzanneWhang’s passing, we have also lost a very young member of the daytime community and a law enforcement officer here in our home base was ambushed and assassinated in his car at age 30,” she wrote via Instagram in September 2023. “Life is so fragile. I can’t help but feel helpless and hopeless.”
Amid their longstanding friendship, Marcil named Whang as Kassius’ godmother when he was born in 2003. The actress shares her only child with ex Brian Austin Green.
“Looking back on it, there were absolute mistakes made on both sides because we were young and new parents and didn’t understand,” Green, 52, exclusively told Us Weekly in 2023 of their coparenting journey. “There’s a part of me that wishes I could go back and fix things, of course, but then there’s also a part of me that knows that if I hadn’t experienced exactly what I experienced in parenting, I wouldn’t be where I am today.”
According to Green, his relationship with Marcil didn’t foster “the best situation for Kassius growing up.”
“I’ll always regret that side of it, but [I want to] make something positive out of something that was difficult,” Green told Us. “That’s the only thing you can do in life.”
Green also has four younger children. He shares three kids with ex-wife Megan Fox and son Zane, 3, with fiancée Sharna Burgess.
