TAMPA, Fla. — Connecticut star Paige Bueckers did her best to bottle her emotions for most of Sunday’s national championship game.
But when she checked out of the game for a final time late in the fourth quarter — the Huskies’ victory against South Carolina all but sealed — Bueckers relaxed and allowed her emotions to show as she walked into Geno Auriemma’s arms.
Bueckers’ happy tears streamed down her face and onto Auriemma’s suit jacket.
Moments later, the Huskies took turns cutting down the nets for the first time since 2016.
