Trump suggests Marco Rubio could soon get another job — president of Cuba

News RoomBy News RoomJanuary 11, 20261 ViewsNo Comments

WASHINGTON — Secretary of State Marco Rubio, who just keeps racking up job titles, could have another one soon, President Trump hinted.

The commander-in-chief mused that Rubio, who once held four big administration jobs simultaneously and has been floated for more, could become president of Cuba, where his parents fled in the 1950s during the brutal Batista regime.

“Sounds good to me,” Trump posted on his Truth Social platform Sunday in response to a random user who joked that Rubio could be Cuba’s leader after the government there falls.

Rubio has been meme fodder due to the plethora of tough jobs Trump has put on his plate.

At the moment, Rubio is serving as secretary of state, acting national security adviser and acting national archivist. He also briefly served as administrator of the US Agency for International Development (USAID) until last August.

Former National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan publicly said last year that it’s “ludicrous” to think Rubio could handle his duties as secretary of state and national security adviser at the same time.

Amid jokes of him landing another gig, the secretary of state, an avid sports fan, publicly ruled himself out last week as head coach and general manager of the Miami Dolphins.

“I do not normally respond to online rumors but feel the need to do so at this moment I will not be a candidate for the currently vacant HC and GM positions with the Miami Dolphins,” Rubio stressed on X.

“My focus must remain on global events and also the precious archives of the United States of America.”

While you never know what the future may bring right now my focus must remain on global events…

Trump’s suggestion about Rubio taking the reins of Cuba comes as the administration is mulling over what to do with the Caribbean country.

“If I lived in Havana and I was in the government, I would be concerned. At least a little bit,” Rubio told reporters after the successful Operation Absolute Resolve saw the capture of Venezuelan strongman Nicolas Maduro.

The secretary of state has underscored Cuba’s influence within Venezuela and the fact that some of those guarding Maduro during the raid were Cubans.

On Sunday, Trump put Cuba on notice, declaring “THERE WILL BE NO MORE OIL OR MONEY GOING TO CUBA” from Venezuela and urging Havana to make a deal “BEFORE IT IS TOO LATE.”

“Cuba lived, for many years, on large amounts of OIL and MONEY from Venezuela. In return, Cuba provided ‘Security Services’ for the last two Venezuelan dictators, Trump posted on Truth Social.

“Venezuela doesn’t need protection anymore from the thugs and extortionists who held them hostage for so many years. Venezuela now has the United States of America, the most powerful military in the World (by far!), to protect them, and protect them we will.”
