WASHINGTON — President Trump on Sunday lashed out at local GOP lawmakers in Indiana for rejecting his push to redistrict the Hoosier State’s congressional map and give Republicans a boost heading into the 2026 midterms.
Trump particularly singled out Indiana state Senate President Pro Tempore Rodric Bray and state Sen. Greg Goode as he called for any Republican opposed to his redistricting push to get challenged in the next primary.
“Because of these two politically correct type ‘gentlemen,’ and a few others, they could be depriving Republicans of a Majority in the House, A VERY BIG DEAL!” Trump fumed on Truth Social.
“Any Republican that votes against this important redistricting, potentially having an impact on America itself, should be PRIMARIED. Indiana is a State with strong, smart, and patriotic people. They want us to see our Country WIN!”
Bray announced Friday that the Indiana state Senate, which has a 39 to 10 caucus of Republicans to Democrats, lacks sufficient votes to forge ahead with redistricting.
Goode is meanwhile “respectfully” maintaining that he won’t take a position on the redistricting push until he examines any proposal changes to Indiana’s congressional districts, a rep told The Post.
Trump’s team has been exploring redistricting options in various red states, hoping to eke out an advantage in the midterm elections, given that the GOP faces historical headwinds in trying to retain control of the House.
Indiana has seven Republicans and two Democrats in its delegation to the US House of Representatives.
Normally, redistricting takes place every 10 years after a census is conducted. Trump’s mid-decade push has sparked a race with Democrats who have sought to squeeze out Republicans in places such as California.
Historically, the party in control of the White House faces losses in the House.
Democrats believe their strong showing in the off-year election cycle earlier this month may foreshadow victories in the midterms.
