The theater world is buzzing after the nominations for the 2025 Tony Awards were announced on Thursday, May 1.

Tony Award winners Sarah Paulson and Wendell Pierce unveiled the list of nominees for the 78th annual awards show live from the Sofitel New York hotel on Thursday morning.

The 2025 Tony Awards are set to take place at Radio City Music Hall in New York City on Sunday, June 8. Cynthia Erivo will host the ceremony for the first time. She takes over the role from Ariana DeBose, who hosted the past three years.

“I am so proud and excited to take on this glorious honor,” Erivo, 38, said in a February statement. “I am looking forward to ushering the theatre community at large through a night that celebrates the wonderful performances we have witnessed throughout the year. I hope I can rise to the occasion.”

Erivo achieved her breakthrough in theater when she made her Broadway debut in the 2015 revival of The Color Purple. The following year, she won a Tony Award for Best Performance by a Leading Actress in a Musical for her portrayal of Celie Harris in the production.

More recently, Erivo brought her musical theatre background to the big screen in the lead role of Elphaba in the 2024 Wicked film adaptation. She will reprise the part in the sequel, Wicked: For Good, which is scheduled to be released in theaters in November.

The 78th annual Tony Awards will air on CBS Sunday, June 8, at 8 p.m. ET. Keep scrolling to see the complete list of this year’s Tony nominees:
