It never stops. It never ends. The losses, they come spinning past in a blurry rush now, all shapes and sizes, all manner of misery. On good teams, everyone has a hand in the narrative. Everyone does his piece. Everyone plays a part.

Here’s the thing though:

It’s the same thing with bad teams. Everyone has a hand in the narrative. Everyone does his piece. Everyone plays a part.

And let’s not put too fine a point on this: The Mets are a bad team right now, a very bad team. They are not going through a slump. They are not going through a phase. They are not merely regressing to the mean. Not after these last two months. Not after these last 52 games. Fifty-two games is two shy of one-third of a season.
