The Traitors is expanding its universe as a new version of the beloved game is headed to NBC.

NBC announced in a Thursday, August 14, press release that an “all-new civilian version” of the Emmy-winning competition series is in the works at the network. The new version will still feature Alan Cumming as host and the game will continue to take place in the iconic Scottish castle.

Casting is currently open and those interested can apply on The Traitors U.S. website. Production will begin in 2026.

“We’re excited to bring along The Traitors‘ highly addictive fan base as we discover the next generation of legendary gamers and schemers,” Executive Vice President, Unscripted Programming, NBCUniversal Entertainment Sharon Vuong said in a statement. “With our resident host and gameplay master of ceremonies, Alan Cumming, on board to introduce complete strangers to new epic missions and twisted gameplay, this new version for NBC offers a unique opportunity for the cast and audience to meet each other for the first time and we know it will be incredible to watch.”

The Traitors is a game show where contestants known as Faithfuls are tasked to suss out the Traitors hidden amongst them. In the game, multiple Traitors are selected by Cumming with a mission to eliminate the Faithfuls and take the $250,000 cash prize for themselves without being detected.

“‘The Traitors’ format has proven itself as one of the most gripping and talked-about reality competition shows in the world,” producer Stephen Lambert said in a statement. “We’re thrilled to be working with NBC to open up the experience to a new group of civilian players, whose stories and strategies will make the gameplay even more unpredictable – and, we hope, even more addictive for viewers.”

The series has traditionally aired on Peacock and has garnered critical acclaim. The program’s first season, which premiered in 2023, featured a mix of reality TV stars and everyday people. Following Survivor legend Cirie Fields’ iconic win, season 2 included only public figures and has continued that method in its practice. Season 2 took home two Emmys, including Outstanding Reality Competition Program and Outstanding Host for a Reality Competition Series.

The Traitors season 3 was equally as successful as its previous installment as it is currently up for five Emmys including Outstanding Host for a Reality or Reality Competition Program, Outstanding Reality Competition Program, Outstanding Directing for a Reality Program, Outstanding Cinematography for a Reality Program and Outstanding Picture Editing for a Structured Reality or Competition Program.

The Traitors season 4 was announced earlier this year and includes a star-studded cast featuring Lisa Rinna, Donna Kelce, Ron Funches, Mark Ballas and more. Season 4 will premiere on Peacock next year.
