SAN ANTONIO — St. John’s season ended over two weeks ago, but its breakthrough campaign remained on the forefront during this weekend at the Final Four.
Rick Pitino was on hand, receiving two National Coach of the Year awards, and the direction of the program was something that was being discussed after the Johnnies won their first outright Big East regular-season crown since 1985.
“They’re back,” one high-major coach said, pointing to St. John’s healthy financial standing, the presence of Pitino and the national buzz that was generated this winter as major factors.
St. John’s, indeed, has gotten off to a nice start in the transfer portal, landing Providence transfer Bryce Hopkins and Arizona State transfer Joson Sanon, each considered a top 25 transfer.
