WASHINGTON, D.C. — The finality of it all is so cruel, especially when your dreams reach higher than the Empire State Building. St. John’s wanted so much more. Expected so much more. Believed they were destined for a marathon joy ride on The Road to Indianapolis. A Team of Destiny, chasing their One Shining Moment.
No Final Four now. No more Dancing. No more daring to dream The Impossible Dream that Rick. Pitino thought was possible last summer when he asked his team to live for today to follow him to tomorrow.
The last thing Pitino and the Johnnies wanted to hear after Duke 80, St. John’s 75 was “Thanks for the Memories.” There were so many of them. But there will be no more.
There is no possible way to measure how badly Pitino wanted this for his players, and for this program he has resurrected, and for his native New York.
