It didn’t take long for Kody Brown‘s polygamy and history on Sister Wives to become the butt of the joke on Special Forces.
During the Thursday, October 2, episode of Special Forces, viewers were given a glimpse of what is yet to come. The new challenges include a grueling task where each contestant has to walk on a ladder to cross from one building to another.
The Directing Staff (DS) instructors didn’t make it easy though — especially when it was Kody’s turn.
“Imagine it is one of your wives over here,” an instructor yelled at Kody as he was struggling to get across.
Kody has been spiritually married to wife Robyn Brown since 2010. At the time, Kody was already married to Meri Brown, Janelle Brown and Christine Brown. He and Robyn legally wed in December 2014, and he adopted her three children from a prior marriage. (The couple share two children of their own, Solomon, 13, and Ariella, 9.)
The sneak peek came after a brutal episode where Teresa Giudice voluntarily withdrew and Eva Marcille was eliminated — but more on that later.
Thursday’s episode picked up in the wake of Brittany Cartwright‘s departure, Jussie Smollett‘s interrogation and a late night surprise exercise challenge. The next morning, the remaining contestants were told they would practice escaping a crash by being placed in a helicopter — underwater.
Each group (of two) had to hold their breath for 20 seconds before exiting — from the right door — in order to pass the test. Most of the recruits failed for various reasons including Jussie after he ended up going twice and didn’t exit from the correct door either time.
Eva struggled the most after nearly having a medical crisis. She tried to push forward, but she was told by the instructors that they didn’t see her going farther than that. From there, the contestants were paired off again but this time for a boxing match fight.
Teresa chose to depart after refusing to watch her daughter Gia Giudice fight in the ring. This visibly affected Gia, who was pulled into an interrogation. Gia admitted she struggled with growing up too fast after her parents’ individual prison sentences. But the DS convinced Gia to see it as an opportunity to challenge herself without being worried about Teresa all the time.
The dig at Kody in the trailer for the next episode isn’t the worst challenge the Sister Wives star has faced. Before the season premiered, Kody exclusively opened up to Us Weekly about some of the battles he personally faced while competing.
“There was one time when my muscles gave out,” he said in September. “We were supposed to be swinging across monkey bars, and I had sand on my hands, and I couldn’t cup the monkey bars. I just didn’t have the strength anymore to do it.”
Kody recalled the hazing that became a part of Special Forces.
“I don’t even know what they call the punishment,” he shared. “We’re standing and I’ve been in this water, and I started to shiver. I don’t want the DS [to see] that. I don’t want them seeing any signs of weakness because they’ll play on that.”
According to Kody, he leaned into a fake wheeze to make it seem like he was hitting his limit.
“When we had been just run ragged, [I was] wheezing, and it was a little bit fake,” he told Us. “I figured if they thought I was really working hard, they wouldn’t try to push me more, and I might need some energy for later. So, I’m sitting there doing press-ups, and I’m, like, wheezing.”
Kody added: “I knew that my limits physically were never reached. I had more to give physically.”
Special Forces: World’s Toughest Test airs on Fox Thursdays at 9 p.m. ET.
