The Raiders have picked a head coach to pair with their likely new franchise quarterback.
Las Vegas is nearing a deal with Seahawks offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak, according to multiple reports Sunday, after firing Pete Carroll following one ugly season.
With Seattle in Super Bowl 2026 next Sunday, a deal can’t be finalized until after the game.
The 38-year-old Kubiak, the son of Super Bowl-winning head coach Gary Kubiak, had also been in the running for the Cardinals job, and Arizona is now the lone team with a head coaching vacancy.
The Raiders went 3-14 and ended up with the No. 1 pick in the 2026 NFL Draft, which they are expected to use on Indiana quarterback Fernando Mendoza.
Tom Brady, a minority owner, worked with general manager John Spytek during the Raiders’ coaching search.
The Raiders hired Carroll last offseason after firing Antonio Pierce following just one full season at the helm.
They also traded for Geno Smith, reuniting the quarterback with the man who coached him during the best stretch of his career. Smith, 35, later signed a two-year, $75 million contract extension.
But they couldn’t recreate their magic from Seattle, as Smith threw for 3,025 yards, 19 touchdowns and a league-leading 17 interceptions in 15 starts.
The Raiders have not won a playoff game since advancing to Super Bowl XXXVII 23 years ago.
They’ve been to the playoffs just twice since then; they lost to the Bengals in the wild-card round four years ago under interim head coach Rich Bisaccia.
The last time the Raiders had the No. 1 pick, they took quarterback JaMarcus Russell in 2007.
He lasted just three seasons, throwing 18 touchdowns and 23 interceptions in 31 games (25 starts) before fading out of the NFL.
