After hitting a major career milestone with the release of her memoir, Scheana Shay was surprised by the reaction — or lack thereof — from her former Vanderpump Rules costars.
“What surprised me is how many people didn’t support it publicly,” Shay, 40, told Us Weekly exclusively at the Page Six Virtual Reali-Tea “VRT Awards” 2025 at City Winery on Wednesday, September 17.
Shay, who chose not to name names, was still proud of how My Good Side was received.
“I couldn’t have expected what a great reaction that everyone just had about the book. It became a New York Times best seller. It’s incredible,” she gushed. “It’s really great to just feel like so many people were able to relate to my story. They enjoyed reading it. For little Scheana — who always raised her hand and wanted to read aloud in class — I was like, ‘Now I’m a New York Times best-selling not just author but also narrator.’ That’s so cool.”
After My Good Side was released in July, Shay hinted that she was upset that several friends — including Lala Kent — after they didn’t post anything publicly showing their support.
“I think it was like maybe a week after it came out, I saw she posted a slide [with the book]. There was nothing else that she posted,” Shay recalled on an August episode of her “Scheananigans” podcast. “I had reached out to her a couple days after all of the boxes were delivered. Because yes, you do expect your closest friends to post and support.”
Shay was surprised Kent, 35, didn’t share a post about her book release sooner.
“I sent everyone a really nice PR box. I’m sure you guys saw some others who posted it,” she continued. “And I reached out [to Lala] and I was like, ‘Hey, did your box come? Because I hadn’t seen it posted yet.’ I just wanted to make sure I didn’t need to reach out to the publisher to be like, ‘Hey, Lala didn’t get her box.’”
Shay added: “She said that her brother and her mom deal with the packages and that she would have them check. But then a week went by and the box didn’t get posted. So I’m assuming she got it because she posted the book.”
Kent and Shay have since both said they remain on good terms, despite Kent recently saying “Scheana is going to Scheana” when asked about their relationship. After seeing Kent’s response, Shay told Page Six on Wednesday, “You know, I didn’t really like that. I love her so much but it’s the subtle digs that I see [that make me go], ‘I don’t really like that.’ She’s not taking accountability.”
Elsewhere in her memoir, Shay revealed that her husband, Brock Davies, cheated on her in 2021 when she was pregnant with their daughter, Summer.
“[It’s] a total relief. I’m like, ‘Oh, I can talk about it now.’ It’s not this secret. But he’s definitely gotten some backlash, which is obviously well deserved,” Shay told Us on Wednesday. “But other than blocking a lot of words in his Instagram comments, he’s doing OK. And he understands why I needed to put it in the book and we’re good. At the end of the day, that’s all that matters.”
