Scarlett Johansson is terrified by the thought of kissing Colin Jost.
Johansson, 40, has some fun at her husband’s expense in a new promo for the Saturday Night Live finale, which airs on Saturday, May 17 on NBC. Johansson is the show’s host and Bad Bunny is the musical guest.
In the promo, Johansson is seen running through the SNL studio and frantically trying to escape an unseen monster when she encounters a chill Jost, 42, who says, “Hey babe, I have a sketch idea for you. Maybe it’s one where we, I don’t know, finally kiss.”
Johansson then turns to the camera and screams, “Noooooooooo!”
Then, Jost’s SNL castmate Sarah Sherman aims a dart at his neck and he goes down, saying, “Ow!”
“Thanks, Sarah,” Johannson says, to which Sherman responds, “Anytime, Scarlett!”
“That was just a tranquilizer, right?” Johannson asks.
“Oh, I have no idea,” Sherman replies, referencing Jost’s Weekend Update cohost, Michael Che. “Che just handed this to me and said, ‘Take care of Jost.’”
Johanson hinted in an interview with Vanity Fair that she might soon take her revenge on Che, 41, for using her as comic fodder on Weekend Update. He and Jost have a recurring bit where they give each other crude jokes to read off a teleprompter without knowing the material in advance.
Recently, SNL’s camera captured Johansson’s shocked reaction when Jost read one of Che’s most button-pushing punchlines to date.
“Costco has removed the roast beef sandwich from its menu,” Jost said on the air in December. “But I ain’t trippin. I’ve been eating roast beef every night since my wife had the kid.”
As Johansson recalled to Vanity Fair, “I had all these cameras on me. I didn’t expect the setup to be like that. I was like, ‘Wow, you really are seventh-, eighth-grade boys.’”
She added, “I feel like it’s almost my responsibility to come up with some way to burn Michael back. Retaliation, I’d say, should be expected. Others on the show could support this desire. Know what I mean?”
Jost and Johansson married in October 2020 and share a son, Cosmo, 3. (Johansson is also the mom of daughter Rose, 10, whom she shares with ex-husband Romain Dauriac.)
Jost recently admitted that his wife was “genuinely so shocked” by the risqué joke during his “joke swap” with Che over the holidays.
“I was, obviously, surprised by everything, but they gave her a heads-up,” Jost said during a January 20 appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. “They were like, ‘Hey, would you be OK if Michael made a little, like, kind of vagina joke at some point?’”
Johansson was “open to it,” according to her husband. However, the joke was far from what either of them expected.
“I didn’t know where it was going and then the graphic came up for Arby’s,” Jost recalled. “Scarlett is backstage, like, ‘Oh, my God, that’s what it is?’”
