Rockets antagonist Dillon Brooks found himself being tossed from Sunday’s game against the Suns at the Footprint Center in Phoenix after he got into an exchange with Kevin Durant.
Durant got fouled while he started to attempt to drive to the basket with 4:48 left in the second quarter, but things got chippier after Brooks tied up Durant after the whistle and the Suns star had to push Brooks off of him.
The two had to be separated and then Brooks found himself giving Nick Richards a bit of a shove before walking away. Brooks appeared to say something to one of the referees.
As coaches raced over to try and quell the situation, Brooks eventually got rung up for a technical foul and was tossed from the game.
Brooks had to be held back after referee Justin Van Duyne issued the tech.
To add to the already odd situation, moments later, referee Bill Kennedy had a bit of fun when he announced fouls to the crowd.
Kennedy hammed it up for the crowd while announcing that Durant had been given a technical foul before a dramatic pause and then saying that Richards had been given a technical foul.
He then announced that two technical fouls were going to be handed out, but before announcing the name, Kennedy acted as if he forgot who it was and pretended to look at a piece of paper out of camera view.
He smirked and announced that Brooks had been given two technicals and would be ejected from the game, with the antics of Kennedy amusing the crowd.
Brooks finished the game with eight points in 11 minutes on the floor and had been averaging 13.9 points per game entering Sunday
The technicals moved him to 15 total on the season and one shy from an automatic one-game suspension.
The Rockets ended up defeating the Suns 149-109 on Sunday night
