HOUSTON — The Mets’ pitching depth took another hit to start the season, with Paul Blackburn out with right knee inflammation, president of baseball operations David Stearns said Wednesday.

The right-hander had been set to begin the year in the bullpen, with Griffin Canning and Tylor Megill winning spots in the rotation.

Additionally, Stearns said Brett Baty would be on the Opening Day roster after a strong spring.

He’s expected to start at second base on a regular basis while Jeff McNeil is out with a strained oblique.
