It seems impossible to have missed the news that Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift are engaged, but just to be safe, Patrick Mahomes stepped in to remind a Brazilian reporter during the Kansas City Chiefs’ press conference on Thursday, September 4.

The humorous moment happened as Mahomes, 29, and Kelce, 35, were meeting with the media prior to the Chiefs’ season-opener against the Los Angeles Chargers in Sao Paulo. One reporter asked Kelce about how his life has changed since he began “dating” Swift.

“Engaged, engaged,” Mahomes interjected as the room shared a laugh — Kelce included.

Swift and Kelce were first linked in summer 2023 when Kelce admitted on his “New Heights” podcast that he “wanted to give her [a bracelet] with my number on it” at her Eras Tour show in Kansas City.

They began dating shortly before that NFL season started and Kelce proposed last month.

“Ever since I’ve been dating Taylor, life has been fun,” Kelce said on Thursday. “It’s been exciting. Obviously, a lot more eyes and I accept that, but I’m living life. Living on a high I guess.”

That high has included two more Super Bowl appearances since they began dating, with Swift present at each. Kelce was also a frequent guest on the Eras Tour, even joining her on stage when she performed in London.

Since their engagement, which they announced via Instagram on August 26, Kelce has continued to gush about his fiancée.

“I appreciate everybody that reached out and sent something and all the posts and all the excitement that’s been going on,” he said on the Wednesday, September 3 episode of his “New Heights” podcast. “It’s been really fun telling everybody who I’m going to be spending the rest of my life with.”

Mahomes, for his part, reacted to his teammate’s big news by reposting the announcement to his Instagram Story with three heart emojis added. Patrick’s wife, Brittany Mahomes, added via her Story that Kelce and Swift are “Two of the most genuine people meet & fall in love. Just so happy for these two.”

The two couples have stayed close since Kelce and Swift began dating, even double-dating together.

“We were just having fun and enjoying a dinner just like anyone else would,” Patrick told The Athletic in August 2024. “That’s what makes it so great. We don’t make it more than what it is; it’s just friendship, fellowship and enjoying everyone’s success.”

The Chiefs and Chargers will kick off Friday night at 8 p.m. ET. The game will be available to stream via YouTube and on YouTube TV.
