New development in Stefon Diggs’ arraignment has Patriots playoff implications

News RoomBy News RoomJanuary 9, 20261 ViewsNo Comments

New England Patriots receiver Stefon Diggs was granted a postponement of his arraignment for allegedly assaulting a personal chef to Feb. 13, records show, per The Boston Globe.

Diggs — who was set to be arraigned in Dedham District Court on Jan. 23, which is the Friday before the AFC Championship game — made the request due to a “previously scheduled professional commitment” that day, his lawyer, David Meier, previously said.

The postponement indicates that Diggs will be available for the entirety of the postseason, and likely remain off the NFL Commissioner’s Exempt List — a paid leave status for players facing unique circumstances.

The AFC East-leading Patriots (13-3) begin the playoffs Sunday as they host the Los Angeles Chargers (11-6) in the Wild Card round at Gillette Stadium.

His new arraignment date is set for five days after Super Bowl 2026, taking place in Santa Clara, Calif.

Diggs denied the accusations through his attorney.

In a December court filing, Meier said that Diggs was seeking a delay in his case because “he has only recently been engaged in this matter and … he has a previously scheduled professional commitment” on Jan. 23.

Judge Jeanmarie Carroll approved Diggs’s request to push the arraignment back to Feb. 13.

“It’s been an emotional time, dealing with everything,” Diggs told reporters last Friday.

“It’s definitely an open case, so I can’t even say anything about it.“

Diggs is accused of allegedly slapping and choking his personal chef on Dec. 2 over a money dispute in his Dedham home.

The 32-year-old receiver faces charges of strangulation or suffocation after the woman claimed he slapped and choked her until she began blacking out, a police report obtained by The Post showed.

Diggs — who welcomed a son with his girlfriend, rapper Cardi B, in November — is in the first year of his three-year $69 million contract with the Patriots.

A day after allegations against Diggs were made public, WCVB, a local ABC affiliate in Boston, reported that Patriots star defensive tackle Christian Barmore is facing a domestic assault charge from an incident with a woman he was in a relationship with on Aug. 8 in Mansfield.

The 26-year-old Barmore, also represented by Meier, is charged with one count of assault and battery on a family/household member, court records show.
