The world’s top women’s golfer had to pull out of a tournament after she was bitten by a dog.
Nelly Korda, a two-time major champion, announced on her Instagram Story on Friday that she is unable to compete next week in London.
“I regret to announce that I must withdraw from next week’s Ladies European Tour tournament in London. On Saturday in Seattle, I was bitten by a dog and need time to receive treatment and recover fully,” Korda wrote.
“I apologize to the LET, the sponsors, and my fans for my absence. Thank you for understanding, and I look forward to returning to the course soon.”
Korda won this year’s Chevron Championship and the 2021 Women’s PGA Championship.
She has also won 14 LPGA tournaments and three times on the Ladies European Tour.
This year, she pulled off a streak where she won five tournaments in a row.
However, this dog bite is now a painful part of a frustrating stretch.
Korda was in the Seattle area for the LPGA Championship at Sahalee Country Club but missed the cut after shooting a second-round 81.
That came after she struggled out of the gate at the U.S. Women’s Open in late May, shooting a 10 on her third hole which immediately destroyed any chance of her contending.
She missed the cut at that major — held at Lancaster Country Club — as well.
She had forecasted before the major that the tournament was going to be tricky for her, noting the Pennsylvania course was “a beast.”
“It just tests every aspect of your game,” Korda said this before the event. “It’s tight off the tee. Visually, it looks so much shorter than it is. There’s bunkers that visually you see that you think you’re going to carry that you end up maybe 10 yards short. If you’re in the rough and you miss fairways, the greens are very small and very sloppy, and the rough is thick around the greens, too.”
