Bad news for the Blue Jays meant good news for next offseason.

With Vladimir Guerrero Jr. saying Tuesday that he and the only team he’s ever played for — Toronto — had failed to come to an extension prior to his self-imposed spring training deadline, it set off yet another domino in what’s sure to be another interesting free agency process.

One that again could include both the Yankees and Mets.

Much like when Aaron Judge and the Yankees announced prior to Opening Day in 2022 that they hadn’t been able to agree on an extension before his final season prior to hitting free agency, Guerrero’s spring announcement is a bit of a gamble, but one almost certainly worth the risk.
