Mike McCarthy clearly had enough of the Cowboys’ struggles.
The Dallas head coach took out his frustrations on a tablet after a failed fourth down in the second quarter of a 27-21 loss to the Falcons on Sunday.
Fox cameras captured McCarthy smashing a tablet early in the second quarter after a dismal series of events.
First, his offense sputtered on a fourth-and-one when Dallas wideout CeeDee Lamb was swarmed for a three-yard loss on an ill-fated end-around.
On the ensuing possession, Falcons wideout Darnell Mooney scored a wide-open 36-yard touchdown from quarterback Kirk Cousins on a fourth-and-3 play.
The Cowboys’ struggles continued as quarterback Dak Prescott was ruled out for the game with a hamstring injury.
Cooper Rush relieved him and completed 18-of-24 passes for 133 yards and a touchdown.
Ezekiel Elliott being a healthy scratch for Sunday’s game, due to a reported disciplinary action, was another nail in the coffin for Dallas.
“We have five losses and so we clearly understand where that puts us as far as what it will take,” McCarthy said. “We’ve got to get to winning.”
The former Super Bowl-winning coach is entering the final year of his contract and pressure is mounting.
Prescott is set to get an MRI exam on Monday to determine the severity of his hamstring injury.
“It’s something I’ve never felt,” Prescott said. “I saw the medical team and asked could I make it worse. At that point they said I wouldn’t be able to protect myself and made the call to hold me out.”
The Cowboys (3-5) host the Eagles (6-2) in an NFC East showdown on Nov. 10.
