Michelle Williams and husband Thomas Kail had a rare date night at the premiere of Dying for Sex in New York.
The couple hit the red carpet on Wednesday, April 2, posing for pics at SVA Theater. Williams, 44, wore a long, lavender gown with a plunging neckline and back, while Kail, 48, sported a classic black suit.
Williams stars in the FX series premiering Friday, April 4. She plays a married woman who begins to explore her sexuality after being diagnosed with terminal cancer. At Wednesday’s premiere, she also took pictures with costars Jenny Slate, Rob Delaney and Jay Duplass, as well as her best friend Busy Phillips.
Williams and Kail, who directed Hamilton on Broadway, among other stage shows, originally met on the set of FX’s Fosse/Verdon, which was released in April 2019. Kail served as one of the show’s executive producers, and Williams portrayed actress and dancer Gwen Verdon.
Shortly afterward, the twosome tied the knot in 2020. They share a son, Hart Kail, born the year they wed, and in 2022, they welcomed a second child, whose name has yet to be revealed. Williams is also mom to Matilda Ledger, 19, whom she shared with late actor Heath Ledger.
Williams and Kail have managed to maintain a private relationship and are rarely photographed together on the red carpet. When they do go out in the spotlight, their joint appearances garner much attention. They made their debut as a pair in January 2020 at the Golden Globes, with Williams sporting a glamorous orange Louis Vuitton gown and Kail sticking to what works for him: A simple black suit and tie.
In 2023, Kail joined Williams at the Oscars, the Tonys and the Gotham Awards. They’ve laid low since, but on the sidewalks of Brooklyn, they can be seen walking and talking. Last December, they were photographed on a street corner in New York’s most populous borough, looking lovingly at each other and appearing to share a laugh.
Originally hailing from Montana, Williams has long been a major player in the local real estate scene. She and Kail purchased a $10.8 million townhouse in Brooklyn Heights in 2020 and she owns a number of other properties around the borough.
As for her domestic life — and having a baby amid the COVID-19 pandemic — Williams told Variety: “It was a reminder that life goes on. The world we brought a baby into is not the world we thought we were bringing a baby into, but the baby is ignorant of that. He experiences the unmitigated joy of discovery and the happiness of a loving home.”
