MIAMI — Chants of “Let’s Go Mets” broke out throughout the season’s penultimate game in their home away from home. And the Mets rewarded their extreme faithful with one of their very best games of the year, and certainly lately.

Yes, indeed, there’s still a little bit of fight left in the orange and blue. But is it enough? And did it come too late?

The Mets needed this 5-0 victory over the nemesis Marlins in game No. 161 to keep hope alive for Sunday’s season-deciding finale. But you still have to wonder: Was this just one last hurrah? And are they just delaying the inglorious?

The Mets get a modicum of credit for staying in the race until the very end, thanks to the type of all-around performance rarely seen since the first half, back when the Mets were the best team going. The crowd roared when Mets closer Edwin Díaz recorded the final out. This team is loved, even here in New York South, where a throng of New York transplants will be back to witness the season decided Sunday.
