Megyn Kelly helped arrange meeting between Erika Kirk and Candace Owens, hoping for ‘detente’

News RoomBy News RoomDecember 16, 20251 ViewsNo Comments

Megyn Kelly says she helped broker a meeting between Charlie Kirk’s widow Erika Kirk and podcaster Candace Owens, who has called into question the official narrative surrounding her husband’s assassination.

“Many of my viewers have been wondering why I haven’t said anything given my previous statements about Erika, and the reason is that I have been working behind the scenes to try to foster a detente between them,” Kelly, the former Fox News star and current host of SiriusXM’s “The Megyn Kelly Show,” said on her Tuesday podcast.

Owens has made waves since the fatal Sept. 10 shooting of Charlie Kirk on the campus of a Utah university, suggesting that his activist group Turning Point USA, which Erika Kirk now heads, played a role in the killing.

Tyler Robinson, a 22-year-old from Washington, Utah, has been arrested and charged with aggravated murder and other offenses. If convicted, he faces the death penalty.

Owens has made comments suggesting that Robinson did not act alone but was rather part of a broader conspiracy possibly involving a foreign government.

The Post has learned that Erika Kirk reached out to both Kelly and Owens seeking a meeting that could possibly take the form of a livestreamed, on-air discussion either in Arizona or Tennessee.

Kelly agreed to the arrangement and then discussed the matter with Owens, a source told The Post.

Owens was said to be on board with either having Kelly moderate a discussion or possibly facilitating a one-on-one conversation, which eventually took place on Monday.

Owens and Erika Kirk decided on a private, one-on-one sit-down, with Kirk traveling to Owens’ home state of Tennessee, The Post has learned.

“Erika called me weeks ago and asked me if I would be part of this sit down with them, which originally they had contemplated might be for consumption by the public, might air in some way, shape, or form, and asked if I would facilitate that meeting between the two of them,” Kelly told her listeners on Tuesday.

“And I said ‘Yes,’ immediately. ‘Of course I would’.”

According to Kelly, she reached out to Owens, who is said to have responded: “Absolutely, I’m thrilled it’s you. I’m in.”

“And the two of them took it from there, trying to negotiate the specifics of what they both would be comfortable with, where, when, etcetera,” Kelly said.

Kelly declined to get into specifics of what was said between the two of them, only to acknowledge that there were “some roadblocks.”

“Again, that’s for someone else to tell you about, if they so choose, not having anything to do with yours truly,” Kelly said.

“Megyn has been fantastic behind the scenes,” Owens told The Post via email.

“It’s extremely rare in politics to see someone who can respect a difference of opinion and want to help close the gap on misunderstandings rather than the preferred route of casting something wholly good or evil.”

The Post has sought comment from Erika Kirk.

Kelly said the decision to keep the meeting private came after what she described as unspecified “roadblocks,” ultimately leading both women to agree to meet off camera.

“Let’s do this privately, not on camera, not a livestream, just us,” Kelly said, adding that she “fully support[ed]” the move.

The meeting took place in Nashville and lasted several hours, according to Kelly.

“Those two had a sit-down meeting yesterday for four and a half hours,” she said. “They met face to face in Nashville yesterday. No recording devices, nothing, just the two of them.”

Kelly said each woman had a supporter present but stressed the meeting was otherwise closed-door.

“Each had a supporter, someone from their own perspective teams,” she said, adding that “they made a lot of progress.”

Kelly said she deliberately stayed out of the public fray while the talks were being arranged, rejecting pressure from online critics who wanted her to take sides.

“I don’t have any obligation to you to hate the people you hate or try to bring down the people you want brought down,” Kelly said.

“People want to turn that into a cat fight between Candace and yours truly, which will fail.”

Kelly said she disagrees with Owens on key points but said their relationship has strengthened despite the backlash.

“Candace knows I disagree with her on this,” Kelly said.

“She and I actually have only gotten closer over the past couple of months as people try to make me attack her.”

She also said she empathizes deeply with Erika Kirk, describing her as a grieving widow under intense public scrutiny.

“She is grieving,” Kelly said. “She is truly trying to fulfill Charlie’s legacy and promise on his book.”

Kelly pushed back forcefully against speculation tying Turning Point USA to Charlie Kirk’s killing.

“I don’t believe for one second any of them had anything to do with Charlie’s murder,” she said. “Not for one second do I believe that.”

Kelly said her goal was to help defuse a conflict she believes has become damaging to everyone involved.

“This isn’t about me. It’s totally not about me,” she said.

“It’s about those two.”

Kelly ended by lashing out at critics who accused her of cowardice or betrayal for staying publicly silent.

“Go f–k yourselves,” she said.

“You have no f–king clue what’s going on. You don’t know what I do behind the scenes.”

She added: “Your world is so myopically online, you fail to understand there are real humans involved here.”

Erika Kirk said she had a “productive” conversation with Candace Owens, signaling a potential easing of tensions after weeks of public sparring following the assassination of her husband, Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk.

Kirk shared the update Monday in a post on X, suggesting more details would follow.

“Had a very productive conversation with @RealCandaceO,” Kirk wrote.

“More to come from both of us. Looking forward to AmFest this week. Time to get back to work.”

Owens echoed the sentiment in a separate post, revealing the discussion stretched several hours and exceeded her expectations.

“Erika and I had an extremely productive 4 1/2 hour meeting that I think we both feel should have taken place a lot earlier than it did,” Owens said.
