Meghan Markle Shares Rare Glimpse of Son Archie’s Auburn Hair While Feeding a Rhino at the Zoo

Meghan Markle is offering a glimpse at her mother-son weekend with her 6-year-old, Prince Archie.

Meghan, 44, shared rare footage of Archie to her Instagram Stories on Sunday, January 18, as they visited a rhinoceros exhibit at a local zoo.

“On average, black rhinos can weigh up to 3,000 pounds, but his dad wasn’t quite 3,000 pounds,” a zookeeper explained while Archie fed a baby rhino a piece of grass. “We don’t know [how big he will get].”

In the clip, Archie was dressed casually in a gray pullover hoodie and showed off his auburn locks. (Archie and his 4-year-old sister, Princess Lilibet, both inherited their dad Prince Harry’s signature red hair.)

Meghan also got in on the fun, feeding a piece of lettuce to a local giraffe in a follow-up slide. The Duchess of Sussex dressed casually during the outing, looking effortless in a white sweater with coordinating slacks. Meghan wore her brown hair in loose waves and attempted to go incognito thanks to a pair of aviator sunglasses.

Meghan also tagged The Living Desert, a local zoo and conservation site in California’s Palm Springs, in her upload.

Meghan and Harry, 41, moved to Montecito, California, from the prince’s native England in 2020 after stepping down from their duties as senior working royals. Since then, the married couple have raised Archie and Lili out of the limelight.

“Essentially, at the end of the day where you can say, ‘Here’s my rose, here’s the best part of my day, and here’s my thorn,’” Meghan revealed during an October 2025 event of her family’s dinnertime rituals. “Every day is not going to be perfect — no day is. But what are the things that are your highlights and also the things that maybe didn’t feel so good, they hurt a little bit.”

She continued, “Especially with young children, it’s a great opener for, you know, when you get to that stage where your kids just give you a yes or no answer and you go, ‘OK, what’s your rose and thorn?’ And you really can start to peel back the layers and find ways to connect.”

Ever since becoming a parent, Meghan has worked to remember every memory and milestone that her kids have accomplished.

“One of our mom’s friends had said to me last year that she just created, sort of, secret email addresses for her kids that she’ll give to them at some point in their life,” the Suits alum said on Jamie Kern Lima’s podcast in April 2025. “She would just send them, you know, random pictures, the pictures that you aren’t going to put in a frame.  I am sending my kids an email every night.”

Meghan revealed that, thanks to her nightly correspondence tradition, Archie and Lili will have nearly 4,000 emails by the time they turn 18 and open their respective inboxes.

“Here’s everything and every moment that I wanted to tell you how much I love you and how proud I am of you,” she revealed of the sent messages.

Meghan will also occasionally share updates on her kids on her Instagram account, which she relaunched in January 2025. (The duchess initially shuttered her social media profiles once she got engaged to Harry.)

“It feels liberating,” Meghan said on the “Aspire” podcast last year. “I have to look again, what was my intention? I came back, started the account in January of this year. Part of it is just being able to authentically share in real time the things that are happening that I think someone might be able to laugh with or enjoy or be inspired by.”
