WASHINGTON — He’s lovin’ it.
Republican Rep. Kevin Hern of Oklahoma took a unique approach to hamburgle up some votes for his House speakership bid Monday.
Asking for his fellow GOP lawmakers’ support, Hern delivered a “Dear Colleague” letter to their offices stapled to a bag containing two McDonald’s cheeseburgers.
The move was an apparent nod to his “McCongressman” nickname for his past as a McDonald’s franchisee. Hern once owned 18 of the fast-food restaurants.
“My 35 years of experience as a business leader makes me uniquely qualified to lead a diverse Republican Conference and ensure we break the pattern of legislating in a perpetual state of crisis,” Hern wrote in his letter.
“Our Conference is at a crossroads. We can choose business as usual, or we can choose a speaker who didn’t come to Washington to be something, but to do something,” he added.
House Republicans will meet Monday evening to decide on their next nominee to become speaker of the House.
