Kim Kardashian delivered an emphatic response to critics of her 12-year-old daughter, North West, experimenting with fake piercings and face tattoos on her social media.
“This is such a non-issue,” Kardashian, 45, clapped back at critics on the joint TikTok account she shares with her daughter on Saturday, October 25.
Earlier this week, North revealed a whole new look in a TikTok video that has amassed nearly 5 million views and 180,000 “likes.” In the clip, North debuted a tattoo of a star under her eye and her name written in cursive on her cheek.
The 12-year-old paired her fake facial tattoos with a faux septum piercing, as well as braided blue highlights in her hair. North also displayed henna symbols on her hand and a black grill over her teeth.
North tried to ward off any controversy by making it clear in a followup post that all of her style accessories were temporary.
“Fake piercings and fake tatts 4 life,” she wrote.
Still, some were not impressed by North’s temporary makeover, with one commenter suggesting it was a “shocking new look.”
“She’s TWELVE??” another commenter complained.
Many others defended the preteen, with one X user asking: “None of you tried fake tattoos as kids??”
“It’s really not that serious, hence the word ‘fake,’” a commenter pointed out.
Kim and her daughter have experimented with fake piercings in the past. In 2019, Kim shared a photo of North wearing a fake nose ring at an 85th birthday celebration for Kris Jenner’s mother (and North’s great-grandmother), Mary Jo “MJ” Campbell, in addition to mother and daughter wearing matching faux piercings to events from time to time.
North is the oldest of Kim and ex-husband Kanye West’s four children. The former couple also share Saint West, 9, Chicago West, 7, and Psalm West, 6.
During her October 15 appearance on the “Call Her Daddy” podcast, Kim assured host Alex Cooper that she actively encourages North’s interest in fashion.
“I’m like, ‘Babe, if you want blue hair, it is what it is,’” Kim joked. “It makes her so happy. I would never take that creative away from her.”
Kim insisted North already has a strong sense of fashion, which is why she “dresses like a tomboy most of the time.”
“She’ll be like, ‘Mom, I saw this and I don’t really care if someone says they don’t like my blue hair, or my this or that,’” Kim noted. “And she’s really confident and is like, ‘I probably wouldn’t be hanging out with those people.’”
Meanwhile, Kim recently revealed on The Kardashians that she’d been diagnosed with “a little aneurysm” that may have been caused by “stress.” Viewers followed Kim as she underwent an MRI and later shared news about her condition with sister Kourtney Kardashian.
Kim has managed to keep busy despite her health issue, as she shared on The Graham Norton Show on Friday, October 24, that she will soon be a qualified lawyer. Kim started studying law in 2019 and has become a leading advocate for prison reform in recent years.
“I will be qualified in two weeks. I hope to practice law,” Kardashian confirmed to host Graham Norton on his BBC One talk show. “Maybe in 10 years, I think I’ll give up being Kim K. and be a trial lawyer. That’s what I really want.”
Hulu releases new episodes of The Kardashians every Thursday.
