Jimmy Johnson hinted at his potential retirement while tearing up during an emotional segment honoring his coaching career during the Fox pregame show for Super Bowl 2025.

The segment included a four-plus minute video recapping the 81-year-old’s football career, dating back to his days playing at Arkansas to his current role analyzing games for Fox.

“One day at a time, Curt,” Johnson said after being asked if this was “goodbye” by host Curt Menefee. “One day at a time.”

It would appear that Fox prepared as if this will be Johnson’s final game with the network after airing a tribute that leaned on AI to recall his football career.

Johnson served two seasons as an analyst for Fox in the 1990s before re-joining the network in 2002.

The montage started with Johnson during his days as a Razorback — when he met his future employer in current Cowboys owner and then-roommate, Jerry Jones — when he was known as “Jimmy Jump Up” for his Rudy-like characteristic of always jumping back up after being knocked down.

It then showed his time coaching at Louisiana Tech, where he met current Fox co-worker Terry Bradshaw, and his time with Oklahoma State, Miami, the Cowboys and the Dolphins.

He won two Super Bowls while leading Dallas in 1993 and 1994 and also claimed a national championship while playing for Arkansas.

Toward the end of the montage, Johnson praised his Fox co-workers while they surrounded him with the Cowboys’ AT&T Stadium serving as the backdrop.

“Who could have guessed that of all the football teams I’ve been a part of, the one I would cherish the most is the one I’ve been with the longest,” Johnson said. “My Fox guys are more than teammates. They’re my family.”

After Johnson thanked his family, players and coaches, his co-workers — including Howie Long, Menefee, Michael Stahan and Bradshaw — praised him for their time working alongside him.

“I can truly say because of my family and because of y’all, I’ve never been happier than in this time of my life,” Johnson said. “Happiest I’ve ever been in my life.”
