Jaxson Dart’s first NFL start on Sunday was an uneven affair of ups and downs, and he was forced off the field early in the third quarter after the league spotter up in the press box signaled down for a concussion check for the Giants’ rookie quarterback.
Dart left the field for two plays and was replaced by Russell Wilson, the erstwhile starter. Wilson was sacked on his first play, fumbled and recovered the loose ball.
On Wilson’s second snap, a third-and-25 situation, he passed to Wan’Dale Robinson for an 8-yard pickup, setting up a Giants punt.
Dart went into the medical tent for observation and was quickly cleared, allowing him to return to the game for the next series.
Dart, dealing with a left hamstring issue as he ran the ball six times in the first half, got knocked around on a long run that did not count.
From the Chargers’ 48-yard line, Dart took off and scrambled all the way down inside the Chargers’ 10-yard line, stiff-arming linebacker Daiyan Henley before he went down.
Alas, there was a flag in the backfield, as center John Michael Schmitz was called for a holding penalty.
